Paris is special, Rome has the prettiest women, or maybe Scandinavia does, Estonia was a pleasant surprise, London is comfortable, the Swiss are neater than the Amish, Egypt is historic...good and bad can be said of everywhere...but no single place held the combination of charm, comfort, color, history, variety, graciousness, architecture, art, tasty beer, surprises and good food that Peru had.
Marilee found an ad for Far Horizons, a travel company that arranges archeologically based trips to historic spots around the globe. They were easy and flexible to deal with. We opted out of their travel to Peru and flew on our own thanks to frequent flyer miles accumulated during the 3 years commuting to NYC to tape for CBS-TV Saturday Early Show. At the end of our outstanding well-planned and led tour of Peru we stayed an extra week to visit a part of the country not covered.
“When the typical American comes to Peru, he lands in Lima, catches transportation to Maccu Piccu, perhaps goes to Cuzco, then goes home believing he’s seen Peru. The Inka (the spelling Peruvians now approve) were around for 100 years. There’s a lot more to Peru than the Inka” is a complaint registered by many Peruvians. We’ll echo that! Even though we were on an archeologically based tour, we discovered Peru to be amazingly interesting country with more than 2,000 years of history, widely different geography, and a climate almost identical to our home in California. It also has some interesting quirks.
This exhibit is a highly abridged one. It doesn’t tell about the various places and experiences. It is simply a collection of favorite photos with brief notes. If you’d like a larger more detailed set of photos, I have almost 200 more photos (73 are in this exhibit) ready to post. All I need is enough people to tell me they would like to see them.
